Selkirk Media Arts Program

Media Arts includes but is not limited to:  video production, layout and design, graphics and images, digital photography, and new emerging media processes.
Media Arts involves creative and critical thinking, through the use of media and digital applications. It provides hands on /minds on practical skills for persuasive self expression and emphatic communication.  It is a powerful tool in which to create change and inspire thought.

Level 1/2

  • Digital photography, photo manipulation and editing (Adobe Photoshop)
  • Graphic design, page layouts, illustration, digital drawing(Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Audio, video production and editing, digital story telling (Adobe Premiere)
  • Creating an online portfolio, and Media Journal
  • Intro to animation

Level 3- Advanced Media Arts, is more focused. Topics include, Photography, Graphics & Illustration, Animation, Video Production and Editing.

Digital Photography-Media Arts students will learn how to use DSLR cameras, in order to take powerful images. They learn the basics of aperture, shutter speed, and exposure, as well as the importance of light and subject matter. Cameras are amazing media tools for expression of ideas and ways of seeing the world around them. Students will gain a good understanding of this and take this knowledge into the next unit, that involves editing the images they capture.

Digital Editing in Adobe Photoshop- Media Arts students will learn to use Adobe Photoshop in order to edit images in creative and expressive ways.  

Graphic Design and Illustration- Media Arts students will learn to use Adobe Illustrator for creating graphics, for online applications. They will learn about the elements of good design and how to apply them to their own work. They also get the opportunity to explore drawing tablets for digital drawing, animation or illustration. They use Adobe Animate in level 2, when creating basic animations.

Video Production and editing in Adobe Premiere- Students will learn to use Adobe Premiere for video creation, editing, and audio. They create a video project based around the question," Where are you from?"

Each year, as part of a continuous improvement cycle, Rocky Mountain School District develops an operational plan that outlines the goals and strategies that will be the focus of the work for the upcoming year. This plan is guided by the current 4-year strategic plan using a variety of student data as the foundation for decision making, schools develop school success plans that identifies targets for improving student learning.
